How to get to Tioman

So you want to come to the Island, but you are wondering how to get to Tioman. Well you have come to the right place

From Kuala Lumpur

Flights

Berjaya Air, will no longer be flying between Subang (KL) and Pulau Tioman. There is however a new company flying the route on a 10 passanger capacity Cessna Grand Caravan. The flight from Subang (KL) to Tioman takes aproximately 1 hour and 15mins.

Charges:

  • Charge is RM1,250 + fuel surcharge + 6% GST per person (including child 3 years old and above) for a return flight Subang Airport to Tioman Airport (SBZ-TOD)
  • One way flights are available at RM850 + fuel surcharge + 6% GST per person (including child 3 years old and above).

Bus

When you are heading to Tioman, you’ll have to get to Mersing first. There are buses departing at least five times per day from Bandar Tasik Selatan Bus Terminal. It takes roughly 6 hours to get to Mersing. It is advisable to buy your tickets in advance especially on public holidays and weekends.  You can buy tickets online at

Train to Bandar Tasik Selatan Bus Terminal
The Fastest and easiest way to get to the Bus Terminal for Busses to Mersing is via Train from either KL Sentral Train Staion, KLIA or KLIA2.  The KLIA TRANSIT TRAIN  will bring you direct from the airport or train station.

Ferry

Ferry’s to Tioman leave on a regular basis and depart from Mersing and sometimes Tanjung Gemuk. The ferry departure times are dependent on the tide, so the schedule is different each month. The ferry company will release the ferry schedule 3 weeks before the start of the new month.  Tickets cost RM35 one way for Adults, Children RM30. It takes about 2hours to get to Tioman, along the way the boat will normally make 5 stops in this order, Kampung(village) Genting, Kampung Paya, Kampung Tekek (where we are based), Kampung Air Batang(ABC) and finally Kampung Salang.

Please contact Bluewater in advance for up to date information on ferry times +60 77 99 4811 as they are known to cancel or change ferry times at will.

UPDATE : There are now 3 separate agents selling tickets for Bluewater Ferry (the only ferry operating the route between Mersing – Tioman – Mersing and Tanjung Gemok – Tioman – Tanjung Gemok)

Please note that if you are arriving on a Singaporean / Malaysian public holiday or a Friday / Saturday it is important to book your tickets in advance.

Getting to Swiss Cottage from the Jetty or Airport

You can either take a 20 minute walk or catch a taxi. We advise you to take the Taxi, the price is RM5 per person, but will be RM10 if you are alone. When you arrive and are exiting the Airport or Ferry terminals, there will be some taxi drivers asking you where you are going, they might tell you that Swiss Cottage is very close and that it is easy to walk there, please ignore these people and ask for Mr Budin. He will give you the correct price.

Bus

Taxi

You need to go across the causeway either by Taxi or Bus. Taxis to Mersing can be found at Lakin bus station. The cost is around RM200. It takes about 2 and 1/2 hours to get to Mersing Jetty. Mersing -Tioman (Tekek village)
